PowerUp Hydrogen Fuel Cells

PowerUP series generators are user friendly and safe electrical power sources that provide entirely green electricity for your appliances. They can be used both indoors and outdoors. Thanks to their light weight you can easily take them with you wherever you plan a trip or just want to spend some time off-grid.

PowerUP's generators are based on proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells, which makes power generation efficient and environmentally friendly. tfuel cell based generators use hydrogen gas as fuel.

The chemical energy of the fuel is directly converted to electrical energy. To generate electricity, the generator combines hydrogen with oxygen from the surrounding air. The only byproduct of this reaction is small amount of pure water.

Key Features are

Power Up200

200 W portable hydrogen fuel cell based generator.

The 200W generator is designed to fit your needs and offer the ultimate plug & play solution.

Easy to use with a smart and compact design, the UP200 gives you energy independence.

A single 9 Litre cylinder (3.8kg) can provide you with 17 hours of autonomy at full power (200W). Whereas our 50 Litre cylinder can last up to 190 hours at half power.

Using its 3.8kg hydrogen bottle the UP200 will run a Schenker Zen 30 watermaker for around 30 hours making 30 litres an hour giving 900 litres of watermaker water (or power anything else onboard). This is an ideal solution for those adventurers where sunshine to provide solar power is much less reliable. It’s only emission is water.

Create your first micro-smart-grid by combining it with a Superwind Turbine, solar panels and batteries.

PowerUp 400

This 400w generator is designed to fit your needs and offer the ultimate plug & play solution. Easy to use with a smart and compact design, the UP400 gives you energy independence.

A single 9 litre cylinder (3.8kg) can provide you with 8.5 hours of autonomy at full power. Whereas our 50 litre cylinder can last up to 95 hours at half power.

This is an ideal solution for those adventurers where sunshine to provide solar power is much less reliable. It’s only emission is water.

PowerUP1K

This 1Kw generator is ideal for providing backup power for 5G telecommunication towers and is reliable and sustainable solution for the disaster relief industry.

The 1Kw uses a type 4 cylinder, these are quickly becoming the standard for hydrogen usage as they are extremely durable and lightweight. Together with our quick connect system, filling or exchanging bottles has never been simpler. Type 4 cylinders come in various sizes from 2-9 litres (water volume) and will fit in most compartments. These high-pressure cylinders are made to withstand pressures going over 300 Bar. A single 9L cylinder (3.8kg) can provide you with 3.4h of autonomy at full power. Whereas our 50L bottles can give you over 38h of autonomy at half power.

Easy to use with a smart & compact design, the UP1K gives you energy and independence even on small and medium sizes motor and sailing boats. With respect to boats, this will allow you to charge all your electrical systems depending on the output and battery pack up size.

Introducing our new portable Hydrogen Booster pump.

The filling and transportation of hydrogen bottles has always been the challenge facing users of Hydrogen fuel cells, especially when crossing borders.

Hydrogen gas is considered a dangerous cargo for shipping commercially. Companies selling Hydrogen gas will not fill other supplier's bottles, not even their own  company's bottles from a different country.

Mactra Marine now have the solution to this issue. We have produced our own Hydrogen booster pump. This will allow a large hydrogen bottle rented anywhere in the world to be decanted into smaller portable carbon fibre bottles to power electrical equipment on Yachts and Ocean rowing boats. The Hydrogen booster pump is used together with a common compressor found anywhere in the world. Small Carbon Fibre bottles from 6 litres upwards are available to purchase from Mactra Marine.

The Mactra Marine Hydrogen Booster pump is now available to purchase or rent for large events. Full training on how to use the pump and where to find the gas throughout the Atlantic Islands and the Caribbean will be given.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • While fossil fuel based solutions are often more affordable and readily available, they are neither good for the environment, nor are they very convenient for the user – maintenance can turn into a nightmare due to their mechanical complexity. Moreover, diesel generators are also heavy, noisy and foul-smelling. Fuel cell based generators can do a lot more for a lot less.

  • While solar panels and wind turbines are a great source of power, their reliability is limited due to weather conditions. With our miniature smart-grid solutions you can complement your green power generation. If other methods aren’t producing enough power, UP® generators will provide the necessary amps.

  • Yes, our generators come with a 5000 h or 3 year (whichever comes first) warranty.

  • This technology is to be opened only by us or a licensed partner. Should there be any problems with the generator, simply contact us and we will repair or replace the whole system. We also perform annual check-ups.

  • That depends on the generator and the output power. Golden rule for the UP400 is that 1 litre of hydrogen (in water volume at 300 bars) will last for 1 hour at 400 W. If you use 200 W, 1 litre of hydrogen would be enough for 2 hours. Thus, a 9 litre hydrogen cylinder would be enough to run 18 hours consecutively at 200 W.

  • Hydrogen can be bought from industrial and specialised gas companies. It is also possible to produce your own hydrogen via a process called electrolysis. Contact us and we will help you find the best solution!

  • Hydrogen is safer than other flammable fuels that we currently use to power our cars including petrol, diesel, natural gas and LPG. Hydrogen is less likely to explode because it is buoyant and diffusive. As a result, when hydrogen leaks, it rises rapidly into the atmosphere, and has less time to burn. Our gas system is carefully picked and put together using the highest safety standards. While hydrogen has many properties that make it safer, it still needs to be handled responsibly. Hydrogen can be handled safely when users understand its behaviour and observe the guidelines.
